Title: Pyramid's Industry-Leading Zip'n Store(TM) Reclosable Retort Pouch to be 1st to Hit U.S. Marketplace.
Date: May 25, 2004 Publication: PR Newswire
LA HABRA, Calif., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Reclosable retort packaging will be in the stores throughout the United States for the first time this June; marking a new era in packaging convenience. The 1-pound Zip'n Store(TM), an innovative reclosable pouch developed by Pyramid Flexible Packaging in alliance with Presto Products, has been selected by Blue Star Food Products for six varieties of its handpicked crabmeat, with distribution scheduled for June 2004 to National foodservice accounts, local supermarket chains, and club stores nationwide. Blue Star Food Products is the first national brand to bring reclosable retort packaging to America.
Pyramid's Zip'n Store(TM) pouch delivers all of the benefits of retort packaging, plus the added advantage of an exclusive zipper design that allows commercial customers and individual consumers to use only the amount of product they need -- reducing waste, ensuring freshness, and eliminating the need for storage containers for leftovers. Reclosable retort packaging technology is now available from Pyramid in the following pre-made pouch formats: 3-Side Seal, Stand-Up, Die-Cut Handle, and Contoured Shapes.
Pyramid's flexible, lightweight retort packaging enjoys wide popularity among processors and food-service providers because of the many advantages over glass and metal cans, including lower shipping and storage costs, reduced landfill content, increased safety, and easier handling. Equally important, retort packaging eliminates the metallic taste that often migrates into food packaged inside cans and, instead, maintains the food's natural flavor, texture, and nutritional value. Whatever the product
category, Human or Pet, if your packaging a heat processed product, the Zip'n Store(TM) pouch is a prime candidate.
"Until now, zippers could not be incorporated into retort packages due to the extreme temperatures demanded by the retort process," commented Dean Hoss, President, Pyramid Flexible Packaging. The sturdy, heat-resistant Zip'n Store(TM) retort package can also be used in the microwave (non-foil structure) and as a boil-in bag for cooking and reheating food products right inside the package, reducing cooking time."
"There's no question that reclosable zipper pouch packaging is more appealing to many of the main customers -- chefs and kitchen workers -- because they are so easy to use," said Steve Harmell, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Blue Star. "They can zip a pouch open and zip it closed again, putting what they don't need back in refrigeration for future use."
Although convenience is perhaps the most obvious benefit of Pyramid's Zip'n Store(TM) packaging system, Harmell was quick to point out that the quality and freshness of the product is unmatched by other packaging formats.
"This technology lets us capitalize on our product being closer to fresh- picked crabmeat versus the old industry standard -- canned pasteurized crabmeat," Harmell explained. "Because of Zip'n Store's(TM) ability to take the high heat involved in the cooking and pasteurizing processes, the crabmeat that comes out of the reclosable zipper pouch is a much fresher tasting product."
